one day clinics: core fundamentals

Anchor 1

OVERVIEW:

Our single day clinics provide riders with the framework and instruction to establish and advance the foundational skills needed to mountain bike with confidence. You'll learn the vocabulary and dissect the physics and pedaling dynamics that leads to proficiency and progression. The core fundamentals of mountain biking are often overlooked by even the most experienced riders, making this one day clinic a valuable addition to anyone who wants to add structure to their cycling technique.

CURRICULUM:

Meet your instructor at 9am at the clinic location prepared to ride. You'll spend the first part of the morning going over bike setup, balance, braking, gear selection, body positioning and cornering. With progression being the core tenet of this curriculum, you'll repeat drills in order to apply, demonstrate and master the core fundamentals covered in this clinic.

Utilizing a mix of spacious flat areas and real trail settings, our 'classroom' will serve as a perfect setting to review core fundamentals and to demonstrate them on dirt throughout the day. A short ride will cap off the clinic so you can apply your newly-learned skills on some great stretches of trail. Clinics typically start at 9am and end at 3:30pm, with the included 1 hour guided ride taking place from 4-5pm. The post-clinic ride is optional.

Our single day private clinics are customized for you in a more intimate setting. Taking the large group dynamic out of the equation results in a more focused coach-rider workflow, which amounts to more rapid progressions where adopting skills is accelerated. These private clinics can be tailored to include focusing on areas that our clients seek to improve - wheelies, drops, technical climbing...you name it.

One-day clinics run from 9am to 3:30pm. Half-day core fundamental clinics are available as well, which cover a more focused set of on-the-bike skills over a 3 hour duration.

INCLUSIONS & EXCLUSIONS:

You'll receive guided instruction from a certified coach throughout the day, lunch, mid-day beverages (water, soda & coffee), and ride snacks. Each participant will also receive a pair of Dirt Gypsy Adventures socks!

one day clinics: SUSPENSION SETUP

Anchor 3

OVERVIEW:

The most expensive components on your mountain bike are the suspension bits. These shiny, colorful items are there to take energy and impacts from the trail so that your body doesn’t have to. There are some key customizations everyone should be making to their own suspension, based on a multitude of factors. Learn the ins and outs of setting up YOUR suspension for YOU. If you’re looking to get an in-depth understanding of how suspension works, on proper setup, and how it can be tuned for different conditions and terrain types, join this clinic and nerd out with us.

CURRICULUM:

Meet your suspension guru at 9am at the clinic location prepared to ride. Be sure you bring along everything it is you ride with, including helmet, hydration pack or hip pack, and shock pump. You'll spend the first hour going over bike setup and how it might vary based on different riding conditions. We’ll then advance into setting a baseline for sag on both air and coil suspension systems and finding balance between your front fork and rear shock. Next up is getting a thorough understanding of rebound and compression adjustments, taking the time to dial in your own bike to be best suited for your weight and riding style. Finally we will systematically ride a series of laps on a short section of trail to further fine-tune your bike in order to maximize performance, speed and control. Suspension setup clinics run from 9am to 11pm.

Our suspension setup clinics are designed as private offerings for individual riders or for private groups.

INCLUSIONS & EXCLUSIONS:

You'll receive guided suspension setup assistance from one of our seasoned shock doctors.

Not included in our suspension setup clinic is a bike, helmet, or transportation to the clinic venue. Given that this clinic is intended for individuals looking to hone in the suspension setup on their personal bikes, we typically don’t offer rentals for these courses.

DATES & LOCATIONS:

Inquire via email or phone for your custom dates and locations. By default we utilize the Jackass trail network for these offerings, given the diversity of the terrain and shortness of the laps, both of which allow the fine tuning of your suspension with efficiency and relative ease.

$99/person, or $89/person when booking two or more spots

TWO day clinics: RIDE + WRENCH

Anchor 5

OVERVIEW:

Our Ride + Wrench clinic gives you the knowledge to ride with confidence and the know-how to perform maintenance and trailside repairs so you aren’t left stranded in the woods. This course takes our Core Fundamentals material and adds bicycle wrenching basics (mechanics & repairs) so that you’ll no longer feel like a tool when it comes to using your own. Day one you'll learn essential vocabulary and dissect the physics and pedaling dynamics encountered on the trail, applying on-bike progressions to see results. On day two you’ll dive in to getting your hands dirty with the nuts and bolts of the most common trailside and at-home repairs to ensure that your bike is running in tip-top shape each time your wheels hit the dirt.

CURRICULUM:

Day 1: Meet your instructor at 9am at the clinic location prepared to ride. You'll spend the first part of the morning on introductions and going over bike setup. We then advance on to reviewing the essentials - balance, braking, gear selection, body positioning and cornering. With progression being the core tenet of this curriculum, you'll repeat drills throughout the day in order to apply, demonstrate and master the core fundamentals covered in this clinic. Utilizing a mix of terrain throughout the day, our 'classroom' will serve as a perfect setting to review core fundamentals and to apply them on dirt. A short ride will cap off the clinic so you can apply your newly learned skills on some great stretches of trail.

Day 2 Meeting again at 9am, today’s focus is on the machine, not man. We’ll review what you should have in your pack to perform the essential repairs while out on the trail and at home. Flat tires, bent wheels, broken spokes, loose headsets, funky shifting and broken chains are just a handful of the items we’ll address during today’s coursework. There are a wealth of parts that need to be operating smoothly in order for you to ride at your highest level. We’re not talking speed, necessarily, but efficiency. When your rig is running well you’ll waste less energy and cover more ground in the same amount of time. Not to mention that walking out of the woods sucks when your equipment has a malfunction, so we’ll arm you with the knowledge and time to perform repairs so you can stress less when disaster strikes.
