COVID PROTOCOLS & POLICIES
It's early 2021 and we're encroaching on the anniversary of the global tidal wave known as Coronavirus. No one anticipated the domino effect of the pandemic would reach every pocket of our lives, but the whitewash of COVID has proven to get each and every person soaked with its unwelcomed spray. With public health dominating the economics, it's been a time to readjust our focus on what matters most - our mental and physical well-beings needing more nurturing than ever before.
We've managed to stay in business during these tough times and our adaptability has forced us to become more targeted, more creative and certainly more appreciative for what it is we offer our guests. It's been imperative to modify how we operate our tours, shuttles and rentals so below is our most updated info regarding these changes. By helping our community rebound from COVID and get out of the woods, we can hopefully return to them and bring you along with us.
Day Tours: We are currently focused on operating guided day tours for private groups or solo riders only. Despite our work setting being in the outdoors (essentially the safest place to be), we're cautiously mitigating risks given the high number of day tours we run during the season. As a result, no more public day tours until mid-summer at the earliest. Early 2020 prompted us to adapt to this new approach, and we've been pleased with the results. By focusing on private day tours, we can cater each mountain and gravel outing to our specific group. We've always encouraged guests to consider a customized and creatively-curated cycling experiences, but now that's become part of the new normal we can dig.
Multi-Day Tours: We've limited the number of tours we're operating in 2021 and have parsed down the destinations as well in order to remain closer to home. Frequent sanitation, social distancing and mask wearing will continue to serve as cornerstones of our operational success and viability.
SCREENING: We require that all guest joining a multi-day tour administer a COVID test within 5 days before arrival and submit results to our staff via email. More details sent with pre-trip packet after making your booking and paying a deposit. Upon arrival to our tours, a pre-trip health screening will be given and you will need to complete a risk release form.
TRAVEL: You may need to fly to join us and encourage you to take maximum precautions while in transit to your bike tour with Dirt Gypsy. We'd recommend frequent hand washing & sanitizing during your travels, trying to space out from others on the place when possible and double-masking while in the plane and at airports (with the inner-layer being an N95).
TOUR TRANSPORTATION: Given the short distances we'll be covering by van, we will continue to offer transportation to our tour guests at the start and end of the trip as well as while on-tour. Masking and spacing out in the van will be required at all times.
DINING: Every attempt will be made to offer meals al fresco, meaning we'll be dining outdoors at restaurants by default. As a result, you're encouraged to add a few warm casual layers to your suitcase knowing that a chilly, social meal is a better alternative to eating room service by yourself.
LODGING: We've removed the shared house option from our tours and have replaced it with a hotel option. Every guest or couple will have their own private rooms during our trips.
APRÉS & SOCIAL SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: This part is the hardest for us, hands down. Meaning, keep those hands down. We're asking for everyone to try their hardest to refrain from hand shaking, high fives, fist bumps and hugs. Dang, how we miss hugs! While we will certainly be collecting outdoors and enjoying post-ride beverages, recounting tales of the trails and of the day, it's in everyone's best interest to raincheck the physical contact until their next tour with us in 2022 (wink, wink).
GUEST RESPONSIBILITY: Part of our permitting process to do what we do is to have a detailed COVID operational plan for staff and guests alike. As a result, below is what's required of you if you when you're on tour with us.
It is your responsibility to abide by the following guidelines. This information will be provided in confirmation emails & will be reviewed at the start of every tour.
If you are sick, please stay at home.
All participants must arrive with masks on. Masks or bandana-style buffs are mandatory and will be used when deemed necessary. Construction of the mask must have two-layers at a minimum.
We ask you to check your temperature before coming to your tour and ask that you stay at home and away from others if you have any of the following: a temperature of 100.4⁰F or higher, a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, or other signs of new illness unrelated to a preexisting condition (such as seasonal allergies).
If you have a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, refer to Public Health’s Guidance on seeking medical attention.
Dirt Gypsy Adventures will supply water and nutrition (food), but riders must come to the tour with a backpack or hip pack that can be ridden with to transport and manage these items, including a water reservoir or water bottles. Once distributed, food and water must be managed by the individual and will not be accepted back. You'll receive your daily rations in a reusable bag each morning.
Dirt Gypsy Adventures will continue to supply bikes and helmets to travelers and clients who do not have their own. These items are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected according to CDC guidelines between every single use. We take this process seriously and spend considerable time sanitizing bikes, helmets, our van, and all common surfaces. Guests are welcome to provide their own equipment or transportation if they have uncertainties about our processes.
For individuals who have been vaccinated, we still ask that you abide by the above guidelines to ensure that the highest level of health and safety can be maintained for all travelers and participants in our tours.
We are currently focused on operating shuttles for private groups or solo riders only.
We will limit van capacity to 6 passengers (7 including driver) at any given time.
Driver will take a temperature reading of each passenger at the time of loading.
Passengers are required to space themselves out as much as possible. We will make every attempt to keep vehicle windows open to promote airflow and circulation when passengers are inside.
Van components that are touched regularly will be thoroughly sanitized before shuttles, after shuttles and at the end of each day. These include door handles, windows, seat backs, seat belts, head rests, steering wheels, stereo and instrument panel.
PPE: Passengers and drivers alike will be required to wear masks at all times while inside the vehicle. Masks will be available for those not providing their own.
Passenger Screening: Before departure and before anyone enters the van, our driver will screen passengers with the following:
Do you have a temperature of 100.4⁰F or higher
Are you experiencing or have you experienced any of the following symptoms in the last 14 days: a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, or other signs of new illness unrelated to a preexisting condition (such as seasonal allergies)?
While the CDC indicates that COVID-19 spreads less commonly through contact with contaminated surfaces, we will continue to wash, disinfect and clean each and every rental bike between uses. As a result, we are only offering full day and multi-day rentals as we don't have the bandwidth to clean bikes between uses that were previously offered as half-day rentals. We know what it's like to be two hours in on a grueling climb, with a waterfall of perspiration from every pore in the body cascading down onto the handlebars and frame. It's pretty gross, and even more so now knowing that little COVID carrying respiratory droplets could be present. So detailed decontamination will continue for the forseeable future. That way we eliminate any concerns of surface transmission of COVID on our rental bikes AND you end up wit a nice and shiny rig for your upcoming adventures. We call this a WIN-WIN.
Let's make this as painless as possible. You want to travel, we want to travel, but let's face it - there's a considerable amount of uncertainty still in the air. As a result, we understand that the road ahead is likely to be bumpy and we'll all have our own obstacles to navigate in returning to active travel and bike vacations. Dirt Gypsy Adventures has modified our cancellation policy to be more relaxed. The bottom line is that you can book with confidence and get your cash back (up to 60 days before departure) if needed. Our multi-day tours are the only offerings that are subject to their own COVID cancellation policy. Our day tours, bike rentals and shuttles are subject to the normal cancellation terms, which can be found on the respective pages.
